Los proyectos de control de inundaciones Naranjal y Cañar fueron inaugurados ayer por Anne Dominique Correa, hija del presidente de la República, Rafael Correa, a pedido de su padre, quien previamente hizo un sobrevuelo por ambas infraestructuras.
Luego el mandatario llegó hasta la parroquia Pancho Negro, donde está la derivadora Cañar. Tras recorrer el área se dirigió a las compuertas, que fueron cerradas para evitar el paso del agua del río Cañar.
Según la Secretaría Nacional del Agua (Senagua), los proyectos Cañar y Naranjal evitarán que cada año se pierdan $ 105 millones en cultivos. Complementarían el trabajo con el proyecto Bulubulu, para evitar daños en época invernal.
Al proyecto Cañar se le destinaron $ 227 millones y al Naranjal, $ 118 millones.
El proyecto hídrico Cañar, dicen las autoridades, beneficia a 61.000 habitantes y protegerá a 40.000 hectáreas de cultivos; y el Naranjal beneficiará a más de 81.000 habitantes y protegerá a 44.000 hectáreas. (I)
